The visual inspection has been completed and then we must put in place everything needed to make the premises free from water and proceed with the inspection under the rubble. The people we recovered were partially stuck, it doesn’t mean that by continuing to inspect we can’t find a similar situation”, concluded Turturici.
Bernabei (Enel Greenpower): no safety problems
“There is no chain of subcontracting. The companies chose independently,” said the CEO of Enel Green Power Salvatore Bernabei. “It is too early to talk about an idea” of the causes of what happened at the Bargi hydroelectric power plant: “We have seen the effects, in due course all investigations will be carried out with the relevant authorities. At the moment we have no ideas”, explained the manager in the press conference. In any case, he underlined again, referring to the work carried out at the Emilian power plant, “there was no safety problem and it was an update planned for 2022: it was a normal technological update”.

Meanwhile, the crimes hypothesized in the file opened by the Bologna Prosecutor’s Office on the accident in the hydroelectric power plant on Lake Suviana, in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, are culpable disaster e manslaughter. The Chief Prosecutor is handling the case Giuseppe Amato and the prosecutor Flavio Lazzarini. “There are investigations underway on contracts and subcontracts, we have given a delegation for this,” said the chief prosecutor of Bologna Amato during a press point.
Overhaul and testing of a rotary valve
From the first reconstructions of the accident, shortly before 3pm on 9 April the transformer on the -8 floor of the hydroelectric power plant exploded, causing the partial collapse of the attic and flooding on the -9 floor. A team of a dozen workers was completing extraordinary maintenance work on “Group 2” of the plant. A complex overhaul work in progress for about a year, which concerns in particular the rotary valve, contracted by Enel Green Power (the company that manages the plant, of the Enel group) to Abb and Siemens, the local media report, in turn supported by other smaller external companies. Nine companies appear to be working on the construction site on the artificial basin.
Enel Green Power, in a note, specified: «Efficiency works were underway in the power plant that Enel Green Power had contracted with three primary companies, Siemens, ABB and Voith. From what has been reconstructed, the testing of the first generation group had already finished in recent days and, at the time the accident occurred, the testing of the second group was underway”.
