PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), as Subholding Upstream Pertamina, has the main task of finding oil and gas sources aimed at meeting domestic energy needs. PHE also contributed to being part of the PT Pertamina (Persero) 2024 Ramadan Idul Fitri (RAFI) Task Force by ensuring operations run well.

Several important notes to support this distribution include PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangatta Field which succeeded in recording the highest level of oil production by producing 3,545 BOPD (barrel of oil per day or barrels of oil per day) in March 2024. This production number is the highest since 1987.

This production level was achieved due to the success of the ST-217 development well which contributed 269 BOPD since it was produced on March 20 2024 and the well workover ST-194 which contributed 206 BOPD since March 21 2024. Currently, the Sangatta Field PEP is under Pertamina Regional 3 Zone 9 Upstream Subholding.

“This is a real form of effort Subholding Upstream in arresting the rate of natural decline (natural declining rate) and maintain managed field production levels,” said Pertamina Upstream Subholding Corporate Secretary Arya Dwi Paramita, in a press release, Tuesday (9/4).

Apart from that, to maintain the sustainability of domestic oil and gas supplies, exploration drilling activities continue to be carried out. One of them is the Julang Emas well which is located in the Pertamina EP Donggi Matindok Field (PEP DMF) area, Banggai, Central Sulawesi.

The total drilling time takes around 80 days and the findings will be assessed based on production tests that took place last March.

“It is hoped that these findings will increase the production figures for PEP DMF in the form of gas, which is currently recorded at 95 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD),” said Arya.

PHE is also a contributor to national oil production of 68% and gas of 33%. With risk management-based performance, PHE also recorded more than 57 million safe working hours in total manpower reaching 127,665/day throughout 2023.

Referring to the projection of Indonesia’s primary energy needs based on the General National Energy Plan (RUEN), oil and natural gas will still occupy a portion of 44% (gas 24% and oil 20%) of the total 1,000 megaton oil equivalent (MTOE) in 2050. In response to this, PHE’s penetration in seeking energy availability in the upstream oil and gas industry is important in line with the optimal performance carried out so far.

“To ensure that production runs well and in accordance with procedures, a direct review has been carried out by the board of directors and management of PHE, including at Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, and several other work areas, from Regional Sumatra to Regional International and subsidiaries, through activities Management Walkthrough “(MWT) is in line with the Ramadan 1445 Hijriah Safari activities,” explained Arya.

This MWT activity is to review the results of production which can be distributed smoothly to the downstream oil and gas industry, and ensure that energy needs can be met properly, especially with the increasing need for energy resources in Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2024.

“PHE manages the upstream oil and gas working area in the region onshore (land) or offshore “(offshore) continues to improve optimal performance to support the achievement of production targets set by the company,” he said.

Keep investing
Arya added that PHE will continue to invest in managing upstream oil and gas operations and businesses according to principles Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). PHE has been registered with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as a member since June 2022. PHE is committed to the UNGC’s Ten Universal Principles in its strategy and operations, as part of implementing ESG aspects.

“Supporting aspects Governance, PHE is also always committed Zero Tolerance on Bribery by ensuring top prevention fraud carried out and ensure the company is free from bribery. “One of them is by implementing an Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP) which is standardized to ISO 37001:2016,” said Arya.

He also emphasized that PHE continues to develop operational management prudent and excellent at home and abroad professionally to realize the achievement of becoming a world-class oil and gas company Environmental Friendly, Socially Responsible and Good Governance.
