Olma St. Gallen: Something like this probably only exists in Switzerland

In keeping with the motto of Olma – the Swiss trade fair for agriculture and food – there is a “Farming Simulator” to try out at the trade fair in St. Gallen.

That’s what it’s about

In keeping with the agricultural fair, there is the “Farming Simulator” in the gaming zone.

20-minute reporter Tim Rütsche tried out the game and did mediocre.

The record time was set at this year’s Olma.

Anyone who has forgotten what Olma is essentially about will be reminded of it in Hall 9.1. The so-called “Game Zone” doesn’t just make gamers’ hearts beat faster. (Hobby) farmers of all ages also get their money’s worth with the “Farming Simulator”.

“The youngest player this year was seven and the oldest was 82,” says farming simulator moderator Lukas (27) to 20 Minutes. We visited the agricultural fair for 20 minutes and tried out the “Farming Simulator” for ourselves.

At just under six and a half minutes, the 20-minute reporter Tim Rütsche did not achieve a best time.

Mediocre performance

20 Minutes reporter Tim Rütsche probably doesn’t have to think about a career change. Even if he did “not bad” with a time of just under six and a half minutes, as “Farming Simulator” presenter Lukas says, it’s probably not enough to get off to a successful start as a straw bale stacker.

The 20 Minutes reporter doesn’t have to hope for a prize either. The best person of the day receives prize money of 500 francs. Tim took 17th place in the morning and is going home without any money, but one experience richer.

The record was set on the Olma

At the moment it seems as if the winner of the big finale on Sunday has already been determined and will receive prize money of 1,000 francs. At this year’s edition of Olma, the record for the current “Farming Simulator” version was set. “It only took him one minute and 18 seconds to stack the eight bales of straw on the wagon,” says Lukas. There are also players who come here specifically because of the game.

Farming Simulator

In Thursday’s Olma version, Tim had to stack eight bales of hay on a cart and do it as quickly as possible. The maximum time available is eight minutes. But the entire game is even more comprehensive. Players can create their own farm and do, among other things, agriculture, animal breeding or forestry.

Like the e-sports website kicker.ch writes, Farming Simulator 2022 is the fourth best-selling game of last year. In addition, e-sports are flourishing in this game, with prize money of up to 40,000 euros being available in Germany.
