Zurich (awp) – Airport services specialist Swissport is now in charge of cargo operations in Australia. This expansion complements the ground activities and is part of the growth strategy in the country-continent, New Zealand and Asia-Pacific.

Earlier this month, Swissport launched its cargo handling business at Sydney Airport, according to the press release released on Tuesday. It notably includes the control, assembly and dismantling of pallets, handling of containers, loading and unloading of aircraft as well as warehouses for national and international airlines.

This new offering is in addition to the company’s 117 freight centers around the world and should help “strengthen trade routes between Australia and Asia”. Swissport’s first customers in this area in Australia, VietJet and Batik Air, will now be able to accelerate their imports and exports from the island to Asian markets via Vietnam.

In Australia, Swissport serves 23 airlines operating at 24 airports. In 2022, the group handled 10.16 million passengers, a level even lower than before the pandemic.
