A man and a woman dead after a shooting in Zurich
During his arrest on Wednesday evening, a German under investigation for kidnapping took out his weapon and fatally touched his companion, before being killed by the police.
Two people died on Wednesday evening in Wallisellen, near Zurich, after a police intervention. A man shot a woman during his arrest, before being fatally shot during an exchange of fire with the police.
The police had opened an investigation against a 38-year-old German following a kidnapping, the Zurich cantonal police said in a statement on Thursday morning. As the suspect had firearms, the police called in specialists from the intervention unit.
During his arrest by this unit shortly before 8:00 p.m., the man suddenly pulled out a gun and fired. His companion was then likely hit at that time, said the police, who responded.
The suspect and the woman died at the scene, the statement added. The police have opened a further investigation.
