Switzerland is expected to end 2023 with a record number of tourist overnight stays. “For the first time in the history of Swiss tourism, we can count over 40 million hotel guests this year,” said the director of the marketing organization Switzerland Tourism, Martin Nydegger, to the newspaper “Schweiz am Woche”. After the corona pandemic, no one thought it possible that visitor numbers would recover so quickly.

Among foreign guests, the number of American visitors in particular is growing, said Nydegger. They are the second largest group of guests behind the Germans, and the gap is getting smaller and smaller. Because of inflation in many other countries and higher prices there, the strong Swiss currency no longer plays such a big role, said Nydegger. In 2022, the average annual inflation in Switzerland was 2.8 percent, and in 2023 it was even lower.
