Take care, Apple! Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is superior to iPhone processors

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 had its Geekbench score leaked, it seems. Qualcomm’s new SoC (System on chip) surprisingly proved to be superior to the processor used in Apple’s iPhone. The new generation of TOTL (top of the line) processors from Qualcomm features an ARM Cortex X4 core, a unique core configuration (1+5+2) and TSMC’s N4P node process.

Noticed by Gizchina, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 benchmark made on Geekbench was leaked by Korean website meeco. According to the information, the score for using a core was 1930 for Qualcomm’s new processor, while multi-core reached 6236 points. These results are impressive, as they are greater than previously speculated.

For comparison, the Snapdragon Gen 2 has an average of 1491 points with a core and 5164 in the multi-core. Already the Apple Bionic A16 made an average of 1887 points using a single core and 5455 in the multi-core.

An advantage of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is having a 1+5+2 core configuration, with one high-performance core, 5 intermediate cores and 2 high-energy-efficiency cores. In Snapdragon Gen 2 we had the 1+4+3 configuration. With the new division of labor on the chip, Qualcomm’s new SoC is said to be 20% more efficient than the Gen 2.

Launch and availability

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is currently in the engineering sample phase, where engineers are pushing the SoC to the limits to determine its performance capabilities. Therefore, it is possible that the score shown above is not identical to what will be found in the final product. Taking into account the stage in which Qualcomm’s future high-end processor is, there is still a long way to go until its launch.
