ALGIERS- Talks were held Tuesday in Johannesburg on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Algeria and South Africa, says a statement from the Ministry of Commerce.

The Chief of Staff to the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Ms. Souhila Abellache, met on Tuesday with the Director General of Trade, Industry and Investment at the South African Department of Trade and Industry on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, according to the same source.

During this meeting held on the sidelines of the 15th Brics Summit hosted by South Africa, in the presence of the Director General of the Algerian Fairs and Exports Company (SAFEX), Karim Boukadoum, “a roadmap was in place to strengthen trade between the two countries, in particular thanks to the Algiers-Johannesburg airline,” the statement added.

The talks also made it possible to examine “the memorandum of understanding between the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI) and its South African counterpart, in order to accelerate the establishment of the Business Council, while establishing the lists of products which will be the subject of commercial exchanges in a first phase”.

The meeting also focused on areas of cooperation between the two countries in the context of “direct investment”, particularly in “various sectors such as spare parts, where South Africa has promising potential”.

In addition, Ms. Abellache met with South African officials on the ways and means of consolidating communication bridges between economic operators, through the strengthening of participation in economic events organized in Algeria and South Africa.

In this context, South African economic operators should participate in the 31st edition of the Algerian Production Fair scheduled for next December, underlines the same source.
