Tax Revenues in Morocco Show a Steady Increase of 2 Billion Dirhams in 2023

Tax revenues showed an increase of 2 billion dirhams (MMDH) at the end of September 2023, up 0.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

These tax revenues showed an achievement rate of 78.4%, underlines the ministry in its latest publication on the situation of Treasury charges and resources (SCRT), specifying that compared to the end of September 2022, the increase in these revenues is is high at 6.7 billion dirhams or 3.5%.

Reimbursements, tax reliefs and refunds, including the share borne by local authorities, stood at nearly MAD 9.7 billion compared to MAD 10 billion a year earlier. By nature of tax, the ministry underlines that the corporate tax (IS) recorded an achievement rate of 80.5% and a slight increase of 302 MDH (+0.6%), noting that this development covers, on the one hand, an improvement in revenue from tax audits (+650 MDH) and corporate tax on fixed income investment products (+634 MDH) and, on the other hand, a reduction in regularization supplement (-1.1 billion dirhams) and revenue for the first three installments (-234 million dirhams).

Income tax (IR), for its part, posted a completion rate of 80.7% and an increase of 2.3 billion dirhams (+6.3%), mainly reflecting the improvement in revenue generated by IR on salaries (+1.7 billion dirhams) and IR on individuals (+630 million dirhams).

For its part, the internal VAT realization rate stood at 83.2%. Revenues in this respect increased by 2.9 billion dirhams (+16.2%), reflecting in particular the resumption of household consumption expenditure. This development covers an increase in gross revenue of nearly 2.2 billion dirhams, combined with a drop in reimbursements of 686 million dirhams. Import VAT, for its part, showed an achievement rate of 71.8% and a drop of 2.3 billion dirhams (-5.6%), in particular in relation to the measures taken in favor of agricultural sector. For their part, internal consumption taxes recorded a completion rate of 72.6% and virtual stagnation (+63 MDH, +0.3%), under the combined effect of the increase in ICT on tobacco. (+138 MDH) and the decline in those applied in particular to energy products (-73 MDH).
