Apple has added several new features in iOS 15.4, including the ability to wear a mask to unlock Face ID, bringing good news to users who don’t have an Apple Watch. Here’s how to install the public beta version of iOS 15.4.

Earlier, Apple has released the iOS 15.4 developer beta version, which is only for developers to download. Now it has officially launched the public beta version, which can be downloaded and used as long as you have an Apple ID.

At present, the function of unlocking Face ID by wearing a mask is only available in the beta version of iOS 15.4 Beta. Since the version is still in the beta stage, there may be errors. Therefore, it is recommended that users evaluate the risks before downloading and back up their device data in advance. Another foreign media pointed out that only the iPhone 12 or later models support wearing a mask to unlock the Face ID function.

Install iOS 15.4 Beta Tutorial

Step 1

Search from Safari and go to “Apple Beta Software Program”.

Step 2

Click “Download profile” in “Install profile”.

Step 4

After selecting “Allow”, a prompt will pop up referring to “Profile Downloaded”.

Open “Settings” and select “View Profiles” in “Downloaded Profiles” at the top.

Click “Install” in the upper right corner.

Enter the phone lock code and click “Install” in the upper right corner again.

Step 6

After the installation is complete, restart your iPhone (note that this step is required), go to “General” > “Software Update” to get the iOS 15.4 public beta. Once installed, you can use the “Use Face ID with a mask” feature.
