With record temperatures becoming increasingly common due to climate change, the stability of the electrical grid is crucial to ensuring the continuity of essential services. The economic and operational consequences of power outages can be significant for several sectors, such as hospitals, industries and data centers.
The Brazilian Consumer Protection Institute (Idec) released a study which reveals the performance of concessionaires and licensees in the supply of electricity throughout Brazil, from 2018 to 2022. The analysis, which focused on energy interruption indicators used by Aneel, showed that in 2022 companies exceeded the time limit for power outage for 28.4% of consumer units, and frequency of outages for 11.4%.
