Telegram Premium subscribers can now publish stories

If you were already surfing the social media wave in mid-2016, you probably remember the fever that was the stories (and all its derivatives). Created by Snapchat, this publication format — originally named Snaps — was soon copied by Instagram and then by virtually every platform at the time. More than half a decade later, now it’s time for the Telegram to join this party.

Announced at the end of last month, the Telegram stories can already be taken advantage of — at least for now, only by subscribers of the Premium version of the messenger. To access them, just tap on the stories thumbnails at the top of the screen, just above the conversations, or swipe down to maximize the tab with the posts.

The interface for adding a story is very simple and similar to that of Instagram, for example. Unlike the Meta network, however, the user has the option to choose the expiry time of their posts: 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours. There is also an option to keep a story permanently on your profile.

You can post both photos and videos, and add things like captions, links, tagging others, and more. As with BeReal, it is also possible to publish with images captured by the rear and front cameras at the same time.

Telegram also added a series of options so that the user can limit the reach of their posts. As we explained earlier, you can allow viewing only for contacts (with exceptions), for a few selected contacts, or for a list of close friends (close friends)—who, in turn, can view and react to your stories with emojis and messages even if they are not subscribers.

In addition to stories, Telegram Premium also entitles you to benefits such as faster downloads, uploads of up to 4GB, exclusive stickers, audio transcripts and more. Through the App Store, the subscription leaves for BRL 150 per year or by BRL 20 per month. On the web, the service costs BRL 120 per year or BRL 16 per month.
