HIBAPRESS-RABAT-PRESS RELEASE

The High Commission for Former Resistance fighters and former members of the Liberation Army organized, last Saturday in Tetouan, a meeting in commemoration of the 66th anniversary of the historic visit of the late HM Mohammed V to this city.

This ceremony, which took place in the presence of the Secretary General of the Province of Tetouan Mohamed Ali Ihouran, the President of the Municipality of Tetouan Mustapha El Bakkouri, the President of the Provincial Council of Tetouan Brahim Bensbih, and several local officials, was marked by the awarding of three Royal Wissams to former resistance fighters and members of the Liberation Army.

This ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Province of Tetouan, was therefore an opportunity to shed light on this historic visit, which marked a decisive turning point in Morocco’s fight for the resounding and solemn claim of the independence of the Kingdom. .

It was also punctuated by tributes paid to 10 members of the resistance family and the delivery of financial aid to the heirs of members of the resistance family.

During this historic visit by the late HM Mohammed V to Tetouan, the late Sovereign announced, on April 9, 1956, the happy news of the end of the Spanish occupation of the North of the Kingdom and the reunification of Morocco.

The choice of Tetouan to announce this good news was judicious, because of the distinguished place that this city occupies in the process of national militancy to defend national constants and consecrate the values of patriotism and citizenship.

Nine years after the glorious visit to Tangier (April 9, 1947), the late HM Mohammed V returned to the North on April 9, 1956, this time to Tetouan, to announce to Moroccans the independence and unification of the Kingdom. An equally historic visit, which took place on the way to the return of the Liberator King after a stay in Spain where he had held negotiations for the completion of the territorial unity of Morocco, crowned by the signing, on April 7, 1956, of the declaration common law and an annexed protocol by virtue of which Madrid recognizes the independence of Morocco and its sovereignty over all of its territory.

This glorious event is an opportunity to pay tribute to the fighters who contributed, with dedication and selflessness, to the advent of the era of freedom and independence.
