Treviño’s Craft Smokehouse, one of North Texas’ most celebrated barbecue destinations, has permanently shut its doors in Jacksboro, marking the second time the establishment has shuttered in less than six years. Dustin and Sara Treviño, the married couple behind the culinary venture, announced the closure via a social media post on Thursday, citing insurmountable financial pressures after years of operating through a turbulent economic climate.
A Difficult Season for a North Texas Staple
The smokehouse initially launched in Jacksboro—situated about 60 miles northwest of Fort Worth—in 2021. After facing early headwinds, the couple closed the business in late 2022 before staging a two-year retreat and reopening their doors. Despite building a loyal following with their Central Texas-style barbecue and Tex-Mex-infused sides, the financial strain ultimately proved too heavy to bear.
The owners noted that they are turning to their faith to guide them through the recovery process. “We are going to pray for the strength to rebuild. To rebuild financially.”
The Reality of Craft Barbecue Economics
During a June 2025 interview with Daniel Vaughn of Texas Monthly, Dustin Treviño admitted candidly that he initially struggled with the rigorous business side of running a restaurant, honing his acumen by staging at North Texas Smoke BBQ. At the time, Treviño shared that the newly relocated smokehouse was successfully covering its bills, offering a glimmer of hope that the worst was behind them.
Treviño’s Craft Smokehouse distinguished itself by blending traditional Central Texas staples—such as slow-smoked brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and house-made sausage—with bold, distinctive Tex-Mex flavors like charro beans, chori-queso mac, and street corn.
