“I can still see the man in my mind. The image has burned itself into my memory and just won’t go away.” Shocked, the 72-year-old from San Antonio (Texas/USA) tells of the attack. Every day she gets a Coke Light with her car at this gas station, a ritual she has come to love. But this time everything is different. A man grabs her, hits her several times in the face and robs her of the car keys. He flees in the car she so desperately needs. A little later Shirlene gets the message: Her attacker had an accident with her car – the man is dead! “There are a lot of people who would say it was karma,” says Shirlene. “I’m sad that he died, even though he hurt me. But God must have decided to put the man out of his misery and called him.”

Although Shirlene is 72 years old, she still works every day. So that she and her husband can treat themselves a little – and so that their beloved grandchildren always get a little something extra. Shirlene needs her car for her job – but it’s a total loss now: “I just don’t want to stop working, so I have to get another car somehow, and that costs money and stuff. So now I have to see how I do it manage,” says Shirlene full of energy. And indeed there are many people who help her. So much money has been raised on a donation page that it is enough for a new car!

Shirlene is happy and appeals to all of us: “I just hope that if this situation happens to someone else, someone will step forward, jump forward, run forward, whatever, and help the person who is having a bad time.” (cnn/ rsa)
