That’s why you should definitely eat something after exercising

Many of us know it – we come home from a long workout late at night and we don’t feel like cooking anymore. It’s tempting to jump straight into bed and sleep, isn’t it? But we should definitely eat at least one little thing after physical activity.

That’s why you should definitely eat something after exercising

In particular, people who do weight training should make sure to supply their body with important nutrients after exercise – proteins and carbohydrates are particularly important. The reason? The protein not only allows our muscles to grow, but also helps them to regenerate. If we don’t consume enough protein, the risk of injury increases. Healthy carbohydrates ensure that our blood sugar level remains constant and prevent hypoglycaemia and food cravings.

If we sweat heavily during a workout, minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium are also important, as we excrete them with sweat. Anyone who often skips meals after exercising can, in the worst case, even develop cardiac arrhythmias due to the lack of electrolytes. Adequate fluid intake is also particularly important during and after exercise.

But it is not only important that we eat something, but also which foods end up on the plate after our workout. Because: Fast food or white flour products are not called empty calories for nothing. They provide energy, but hardly any nutrients that we absolutely need after training. Instead, suitable foods are sweet potatoes, low-fat quark, fatty fish, oatmeal or eggs.
