The 10 countries where the price of food has increased the most, will Colombia be?

High inflation this year has been a direct blow to the pockets of a good part of the planet’s inhabitants.

Only in Colombia this indicator reached 10.21% annually in July, while in the food category it was 24.61%.

Incredible as it may seem, this last figure is far surpassed by that observed in various countries around the world.

A World Bank compilation shows how in some cases the increase in the price of food exceeds up to 300%.

This is the situation of Lebanon, country with the highest increase: 332%; and also from Zimbabwe, which came in second with 309%.

In the third box there is Venezuela, which shows 155%being the Latin American country with the worst indicator.

Then there are Turkey, Sri Lanka and Iran, which have seen increases of 95%, 90% and 91%, respectively.

And in the last four places of the top 10 appear Argentina (66%)Suriname (38%), Ethiopia (38%) and Moldova (34%).

Despite this situation, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) assured that its price index during July stood “at an average of 140.9 points in July 2022, that is, 13, 3 points (8.6%) less than in June, thus decreasing for the fourth consecutive month”.
