“I wouldn’t have put that one first.” Yes, we know. The beauty of a football shirt is subjective, and that’s what makes it so charming. To close 2022, we made a ranking of the 20 best outfits of the year. Between their symbolism, their design or their history, here is our top 20.
#20 – Hellas Verona – Exterior
We start strong with the away tunic of Hellas Verona. Made by Macron, this jersey was inspired by the stones from the quarries of the Italian city.
#19 – FC Zurich – Domicile
This FC Zurich home kit is a tribute to those worn in the 80s. It features subtle patterns on the inside of the stripes.
#18 – Real Madrid – Domicile
The Madrid class. Equipped by its loyal equipment supplier adidas, Real Madrid sports a home shirt marked by the return of the polo collar and its mauve accents. And what about the flocking… A success.
#17 – Brondby – Exterior
This year Brondby unveiled an away shirt in collaboration with their supporters. As a result, the outfit became the best-selling outfit in club history.
#16 – Portland Timbers – Away
Take off for the United States with this original Portland Timbers jersey. This refers to the nickname of the city in the North West of the USA, The Rose City.
#15 – Real Betis – Special ecology
In order to raise awareness of the defense of the environment, Real Betis unveiled a superb outfit made from recycled textiles last March.
#14 – Athens Kallithea – Domicile
If you’ve never heard of this club before this year, that’s normal. The Athens Kallithea club plays in the Greek second division but has an absolutely sublime jersey created by Kappa.
#13 – French women’s team – Home
On the occasion of the Women’s Euro 2022, the French women’s team was offered a magnificent home jersey. A mix between originality and sobriety.
#12 – Inter Milan – Away
To pay tribute to its fans scattered around the world, Inter Milan has produced a jersey representing a map of the world. A nice creation from Nike.
#11 – footpack FC
This year, like the professional clubs, we have made our own football shirt. A creation that was made possible thanks to Kappa which allowed us to design a tunic with a modern design adorned with a black and gold color.
#10 – Range Basque – Third
Playing in the Brazilian second division, Vasco de Gama can boast of having one of the most beautiful jerseys of the year. Kappa, the creator of the latter took advantage of the 95 years of the São Januário stadium to make this superb tunic.
#9 – FC Lorient – Fourth
At the end of the year, FC Lorient unveiled a jersey adorned with the tattoos of its supporters and players. Published in 500 copies, the outfit was a real success since the FCL site was in PLS when the jersey was released.
#8 – Mexico – Exterior
For the 2022 World Cup, adidas have been original. The proof with the Mexico away shirt. Pink and white, the latter is inspired by Aztec mythology. Problem, like many outfits, it was not worn during the World Cup.
#7 – Red Star FC – 125 ans
125 years is something to celebrate. On this occasion, Red Star FC unveiled an anniversary outfit inspired by the Art Nouveau movement and the aesthetics of 1890s Paris. As a reminder, it was designed by the club community.
#6 – Danemark – Third
A jersey rich in symbolism, this is what Denmark achieved for the 2022 World Cup. Entirely black, the third outfit denounces the abuses of Qatar for the organization of the World Cup. The color is a tribute to the 6,500 people who died building the infrastructure.
#5 – Ajax – Away
A ranking of the best shirts without an Ajax Amsterdam tunic is not a ranking of the best shirts. In 2022, Ajax surprised us with a sublime blue and gold away kit.
#4 – Toulouse – Third
Who are these two? The avant-garde of the football shirt, possible. This season, Bigflo and Oli have created Toulouse’s third kit through their Visionnaire brand. And we still ask.
#3 – Bari – Special
Bari outfitter since the 2018-2019 season, Kappa took a few seasons before releasing THE play. In 2022, the Italian brand produced a jersey inspired by the octopus, symbol of the Italian city.
#2 – Corinthians – Third
To celebrate 10 years since winning the Club World Cup, Corinthians presented a shirt inspired by Japanese culture. A masterclass that acts as a third outfit.
#1 – AIK Solna – 131 ans
Last February, AIK Solna celebrated its 131st birthday with an anniversary outfit. On the design side, we find a tone-on-tone map of the city of Stockholm, a success. Problem, only 131 tunics were sold thereafter.
