The president of the Gabonese Association of Taekwondo and Associated Martial Arts (AGATAMA), Jean Félix Ngomas, announced last weekend at the end of a technical meeting with the heads of clubs and associations, including those of the taekwondo league of the estuary, that the 27th edition of the “Baby champion” competition, a competition dedicated to children aged 3 to 12, will take place from March 30 to 31 at the gymnasium of the military prytanée of Libreville.
“We have set up a Baby Champion logo because “Baby Champion” will no longer be just a competition, but will be a societal project, a social project, a large-scale project dedicated to children”explained Mr. Ngomas, subsequently announcing the date of the competition which begins with the weigh-in of the young athletes on March 29.
Registration fees are set at 2000 francs per coach and per athlete. These registrations will begin on March 1 and end on March 16 at 6 p.m., i.e. 2 weeks before the start of the competition. On the program, individual and team fights in all categories (without touching children from 3 to 6 years old and with touching from 7 years old to 12 years old) over a duration of 1min30s per round.
For Jean Félix Ngomas, the objective of this competition “is to help our children become more and more seasoned in the practice of the martial art. And why not for the older ones who will change category, move to the cadet category, ensure that these children are really ready to form the backbone of our national teams, so that Gabon becomes a nation of champions.”
Clubs from the interior of the country are invited to express their intention to participate as Ogooué Maritime, Moyen Ogooué and Woleu Ntem have already done.
Note that the 26th edition, which took place after 4 years of stopping due to lack of funding, saw the participation of 250 children from 20 clubs in the Gabonese capital.
