No less than 15,000 people celebrated on the EPFL campus on Friday May 12, 2023. Driven by the enormous popularity of its French headliners, Balélec sold out very quickly after the opening of its ticket office, in March 2023. “All tickets sold out in just ten minutes. It’s a record. In addition, it is the second consecutive year that we are sold out, it has been a very long time since this has happened. Before 2022, the last sold-out dated back to 2015”, rejoiced during the evening Amélie Perez, president.
On the music side, around twenty artists performed on the four stages of the event. On the biggest one, rappers Lujipeka and Gazo as well as chillwave DJ Mome repeatedly expressed their joy at launching the summer festival season in Lausanne. “Family, be indulgent tonight. This is the recovery for us. It’s been a while since we played together. You can’t imagine how happy it is to have you back, ”said Lujipeka. Gazo, present a few hours later having triumphed at the Flames in Paris, was apparently also being run in. Known for being an outstanding audience driver, the artist was surprisingly kind to his fans, to whom he also reminded them of “the rules of the game” from the start: “If during the concert your friend falls, we move aside and we help him up. We’re here to party.”
On the other stages, the Azimuts captivated the crowd of energetic and eclectic live performances with artists such as Cassyette and Myss Keta. The RedOx, under the Rolex Learning Center, delighted connoisseurs of electronic music and the Squatt, better equipped and enhanced than in previous years, perfectly played its role as a podium for local groups.
Balélec, who passed between the drops, did not communicate a health report. The next edition, the 42nd, will be held on May 10, 2024.
