Jimmy Lemire-Charlebois appeared Tuesday afternoon at the Saint-Hyacinthe courthouse by videoconference from the Sûreté du Québec post in the MRC des Maskoutains.

Hunched back, hands under the table, he remained calm throughout the short hearing.

The father of the family has been formally charged with the manslaughter with a firearm of Danny Durand Laporte.

He is also accused of having had in his possession a loaded restricted weapon without authorization and of having carried it for a dangerous purpose.

According to the act of denunciation, the crime would have been committed last Thursday in Saint-Liboire.

Around 9:45 p.m. that day, nearly 40 kilometers away, the authorities were alerted to a seriously injured man on the 5th Rang, in Saint-Bernard-de-Michaudville, in Montérégie.

The agents of the Sûreté du Québec found the victim on the ground, near an imposing boat mounted on blocks.

The police initially believed that Mr. Durand Laporte was dead after a terrible fall.

However, the investigators quickly realized that it was rather a homicide.

In addition to where the body was found, authorities combed through two other scenes at a hotel in Saint-Liboire as well as in Drummondville.

According to our information, a vehicle potentially used to transport the 31-year-old victim was also scrutinized by the police.

The exact reason for the altercation has not been revealed at this time.

Like his victim, Jimmy Lemire-Charlebois has appeared many times before the courts.

He was sentenced to two years in prison for robbery in 2008 and nine months in 2014 for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

In this new case, the Crown opposed the release of the thirties.

A new hearing for the release inquiry is scheduled for next Monday.
