The “ADA 74” ferry was introduced with the first sailing ceremony

Cyprus Turkish Shipping Ltd. Sti.’s newly incorporated RoRo/ferry “ADA 74” was introduced with the first sailing ceremony held in Famagusta Port.

President Ersin Tatar, Speaker of the Assembly Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia Metin Feyzioğlu, Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı, Minister of Finance Alişan Şan, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz, deputies and other officials and citizens attended the ceremony.

The ceremony started with a minute’s silence in memory of all citizens, especially the Champion Angels Team, who lost their lives in the earthquake in Adıyaman. After the National Anthem was sung, the promotional film was watched and protocol speeches were made.

Mustafa Yılmazer, Chairman of the Board of Cyprus Turkish Maritime Limited Company, in his speech at the ceremony, stated that the company is a joint company established in 1975 and that it provides uninterrupted service to the island from Turkey.

Yılmazer shared the technical information of the ship, expressing that as a company, they expanded the capacity to provide transportation and trade from the Mersin gate, despite the embargoes of the TRNC, and made the service better quality.

Stating that the ferry, purchased with the support of the Republic of Turkey, will increase the power of the TRNC state in the maritime field, Yılmazer emphasized that the steps in transportation will increase the trade, tourism and economy of the TRNC, and wished it to be beneficial.

Erhan Arıklı, Minister of Public Works and Transport, shared his memories by expressing that he had different feelings at the ceremony held in Mersin yesterday.

Arıklı said that for many years, the transportation between Turkey and the TRNC was by sea, the Bozcaada ferry served on this line for years, and now it has been replaced by the Ada 74 ferry with the support of Turkey.

Explaining the purchasing process of the ferry, Arıklı stated that the ferry was modernized and offered to the public, and noted that the TRNC now has a serious competitive power on sea routes with its quality and ticket prices.

Expressing that they believe and set out on this path, Arıklı thanked everyone who contributed.

Metin Feyzioğlu, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia, conveyed the greetings of President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his deputy Fuat Oktay.

Feyzioğlu noted that this ferry is the embodiment of how determined Cyprus is in its national cause, how permanent, sovereign, independent it is on the island and that it will exist forever.

Reminding Erdogan’s call for recognition at the UN for the TRNC, and expressing that the TRNC will forever exist as a strong state in the region, Feyzioğlu emphasized that Turkey has always stood by the TRNC and will always stand by it.

Stating that electricity will come to the TRNC with the cable, Feyzioğlu also said that hospital, general health, improvement of ports, and highway projects will come to the country with the law of one nation, two states and brotherhood, and noted that Turkey and the TRNC always go hand in hand.

Feyzioğlu wished the ferry to be beneficial for the country.

Expressing that they witnessed a very beautiful day, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel thanked the Republic of Turkey, President Erdoğan and Deputy Oktay, who were always by their side.

Üstel said that they experience today’s excitement and pride thanks to them.

Stating that the TRNC is under embargoes, but they are fighting against them with the support of Turkey in every field, Üstel thanked everyone who contributed to this cooperation and put the ferry into service.

Stating that the sea transportation between Turkey and the TRNC will be higher quality and faster with this ferry, Üstel emphasized that it will also make great contributions to the country’s tourism, private sector, transportation and economy.

In this context, Üstel thanked the authorities of the Republic of Turkey, who contributed to the purchase of the ferry and put it into service, and wished the ferry to be beneficial for the country.

President of the Assembly of the Republic, Zorlu Töre, expressed their great pride on behalf of the TRNC for the Ada 74 ferry sailing in the Mediterranean, commemorating the martyrs and thanking everyone who served the Turkish Cypriot people.

Töre emphasized that they will protect the rights of TRNC with the support of Island 74 in Mavi Vatan, exploration, drilling vessels and the Republic of Turkey.

Expressing that they will always think ahead and that they will protect the TRNC and Turkey until the end, Töre said that they gave the ferry as a gift to the martyrs, veterans and Turkish Cypriot people.

President Ersin Tatar, on the other hand, stated in his speech that he was the Minister of Finance years ago, that the closure of the Maritime Company was on the agenda in those years, but when they look at today, the company has reached an important place in the blue homeland with the new ferry.

Tatar stated that there have been great developments in the development and economy of the TRNC since those days, and that there have been great developments in the lifting of the embargoes and the recognition of the TRNC.

Expressing that they are carrying out these developments with great pride, Tatar reminded that the citizens were lost in the earthquake disaster after the pandemic, and stated that they continue the development of the country and the struggle on the political and economic ground.

Emphasizing that the investments made in the TRNC with financial aid programs will glorify the state, Tatar said that they are working to ensure sustainable developments in every field in the country.

Stating that they should also give importance to sea transportation after the airline, Tatar noted that the TRNC is taking firm steps towards the future with the two sovereign state policies, the justification of the Turkish Cypriot people and the protection of their rights.

Tatar wished the ADA 74 ferry to be beneficial for the strengthening of the ties between the two countries, thanked everyone who contributed their efforts and contributed, emphasized that it would be an alternative to air transportation with comfortable and fast transportation, and wished that it would be beneficial to the public.

The ceremony was concluded with the ribbon cutting and the delegation’s tour of the ferry.

-15 trucks, 25 small vehicles and 400 passenger capacity

The RoRo ship Ada 74, purchased by the Cyprus Turkish Maritime Company, a joint company of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Turkish Privatization Administration, was sent off to the TRNC with a ceremony held in Mersin yesterday.

With a capacity of 15 trucks, 25 small vehicles and 400 passengers, the ferry will organize regular trips between Mersin and Famagusta, 3 days a week.
