The Air Transport Association threatens to close Beirut Airport: Back off the unjust decision, or else

The Lebanese Air Transport Association, UTA, indicated, in a statement, that “after three years of the great collapse that afflicted employees and workers working in the air transport sector, struggles and negotiations from the managements of companies operating in the air transport sector, and their grateful response, albeit gradually, by paying part of the salaries in dollars to support the capacity.” Purchasing salaries, and thus we kept air traffic operating normally, and no problems occurred in this sector, and the companies’ managements were graciously responsive to the workers’ rightful demands, but the blow came to us in terms of not expecting the Minister of Finance, with his unfair decision, to collect a tax on the part that we receive in dollars and with effect Retrograde, to destroy all that we have achieved for the workers with the stroke of a pen.

And he warned, “The Minister of Finance of this decision, which we consider as a royalty and a tribute imposed on us, and we will not be silent about this decision that wants to finance a deficit by balancing it at the expense of the daily sustenance of those with limited income, leaving all the waste gutters of the state and attacking the weak and exhausted party of the segments of the Lebanese.”

And he concluded: “Therefore, from our trade union position, we sound the alarm bell. Back off the unjust decision and do not push us into negativity and the closure of Beirut Airport, just like state employees and judges.”
