The alarming figures of fatal accidents at work in France

Matthieu Lépine is a history-geography teacher at a college in Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis) and has just published a book entitled The invisible carnage to editions The threshold.

The author plunges us into a poignant phenomenon: the number of fatal accidents in several professions in France.

The objective of this book is as follows: to recount the brutal circumstances of these deaths in order to help families mourn and understand the reasons for these acts.

Alarming figures

In his book, Matthieu Lépine demonstrates figures for the year 2019. The author noted 896 deaths that year. Over the past four years, it has counted 1,399 victims, 95% are men and young. These exorbitant figures show the seriousness of these fatal accidents at work.

The history-geography teacher gives several examples of people who died because of this phenomenon, in particular that ofAlban Millot.

This young man died on his 25th birthday while installing photovoltaic panels on a roof in Ille-et-Vilaine. He was on probation at the time and instead of working with a more experienced employee to ensure his safety, he worked with a 20 year old and Alban Millot was not wearing his safety gear.

He fell from the roof and died instantly. In a few months the company lawsuit should take place in Rennes.

For Matthieu Lepine, “This death is emblematic because fatal accidents often occur among young people who are not supervised and have neither training nor experience”.

On his Twitter account Accidents at work: silence of the workers die (@DuAccident), he announced the first meeting dates for the presentation of his book.

Released on March 10, 2023, the book “The invisible hecatomb”, written by Matthieu Lépine, recounts the many fatal accidents at work in France. The threshold.
