The Apple Watch could one day measure blood sugar without a shot

Connected watches are able to monitor your daily physical activity, inform you about your pulse, your blood oxygen level or your blood pressure. They may soon be showing blood glucose. According to an article by Bloomberg relayed by BFM TVApple would work on this subject with a non-invasive process that could help people with diabetes.

The imagined solution, integrated into the Apple Watch, has the advantage of measuring the amount of glucose in a person’s body without taking a drop of blood. People with diabetes would no longer need to inject themselves.

A laser system

To determine the level of glucose in the blood, Apple seizes the process of optical absorption spectroscopy. A laser system thus makes it possible to estimate the concentration of glucose by reaching an area under the skin. An algorithm then takes care of calculating the blood sugar.

Apple should soon be able to market a blood glucose monitor. Above all, the American firm could eventually integrate the process into future Apple Watch. The connected watch, which already performs many measurements, could thus anticipate the onset of diabetes in users, allowing them to stop or delay the disease.
