On Friday, September 8 at 8:00 p.m., the novel “By day we become human again”, by Chelo Candia, will be presented in Roca, in Sala Incaa, Uruguay 650, first floor (above the Terminal). It was selected by the Roca Municipal Editorial Fund, during the year 2022 in its annual publication call.

Among the texts sent, the jury (made up of Andrea Testarmata, Clara Voulliat and Mauro Moschini) highlighted in “By day we become human again” the handling of the different narrative levels and the intrigue. Among its main successes is the way in which it effectively takes up and reworks the traditional legend (or urban myth) of the dead young woman who, dressed in white, mixes with the living.

Known as a visual artist, communicator, cartoonist and muralist, Chelo Candia also works as a writer. In addition to having published five comic books, scripting his own comics, and developing the series “Viajeros” for the Río Negro newspaper, he has published the book of poems “Pulpa that precipitates”, with Vela al Viento Ediciones in 2020, and now , presents his first novel, written several years ago.

“Some time ago, I found this story among my archives and I revived it” – says Candia. “I really liked writing it, and I thought that it would be good for it to be read there. I was going to turn it into a script for a graphic novel (comic), but first, I gave it one last chance to publish it as a novel, as it was originally intended. I sent it to the FEM contest and it won. I am very happy that it is already edited and ready to be read. It is a genre novel, terrifying at times.”

The event will feature special guests, dance, live painting and reading by the author.
