The ATP decided that Wimbledon does not add points for the men’s ranking

Through a statement, The ATP announced that the traditional Wimbledon tournament will not add points for the world ranking, due to the determination by the contest not to accept competitors from Russia and Belarus.

The body stated that the participation of tennis players of any nationality “is essential”, and that the measure taken by the All England Lawn Tennis Club “undermines this principle and the integrity of the ATP ranking system.”

“In the absence of a change in circumstances, with great regret and reluctance We see no other option but to remove the points from the Wimbledon Rankings by 2022“, indicated the writing. However, the association remains “hopeful that further discussions with Wimbledon will lead to a result acceptable to all concerned.”

In the face of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the ATP determined that Russian and Belarusian tennis players can compete under a neutral flag, unlike the directive of the Grand Slam English, which is contrary to the instruction of the entity in charge of men’s tennis.

Furthermore, it was reported that the rest of the official tournaments developed in the United Kingdom will maintain the sum of points for the Tour world.

Finally, the ATP reiterated its condemnation of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, highlighting the humanitarian aid that the world institution is carrying out in the area “together with the other governing bodies of tennis.”
