The number of confirmed cases in Colombia rises to 582

The National Institute of Health delivered this Monday the latest report of infections of monkeypox, also known as monkeypox, where it is shown that there are already 582 cases of this disease in the country, doubling compared to the previous week.

According to the data provided by the entity, until August 29, 1,225 cases had been analyzed, of which 582 were confirmed with the disease and 381 discarded, so there are still 262 samples that continue to be studied as possible infections.

The territorial entities with the highest number of confirmed cases of the disease are headed by Bogotá, with 442 cases, followed by Antioquia (62), Cundinamarca (18), Cali (14), Tolima (10), Valle del Cauca (6), Barranquilla (4), Cartagena (4) and Santander (4).

Faced with the epidemiological situation of monkeypox, the director of Epidemiology and Demography, Claudia Cuellar, said that there are 33 authorized public health laboratories in the country, with capacity, supplies and guidelines for processing PCR tests for its detection.

The National Institute of Health has emphasized that it is important and necessary for health providers and insurers to have clear action plans for human talent in health and the community, in the event of a suspected or confirmed case.
