The BEI is investigating an intervention in Longueuil

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) will look into the death of a 50-year-old man during a police intervention on Sunday in Longueuil.

According to initial information, the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL), was called to go to a residence located on Pendale Street, in Greenfield Park concerning a “family dispute”, around 12:15 p.m.

Following this argument, a 50-year-old man barricaded himself in the apartment. “He would be in possession of a bladed weapon and he would also have started a fire in his home. There would be propane tanks inside which could cause explosions. He is alone inside his home,” said the SPAL, adding that a perimeter had been erected and a dozen residences were evacuated.

The first police officers, who would have tried in vain to contact the man inside to try to reason with him, finally entered the residence, accompanied by firefighters, the BEI said in a press release. That’s when they found the 50-year-old dead inside.

Seven BEI investigators were assigned to investigate the circumstances surrounding this event.
