The body of freelance journalist Juan Arjón Lopez, who ran a news Facebook page, was found in San Luis Río Colorado in the northwestern state of Sonora, near the US border.

Mexican authorities identified the 62-year-old man from his fingerprints, a source in the Sonora prosecutor’s office told AFP, hours after the state’s attorney general, Indira Contreras, told reporters that a body had been found with tattoos identical to those of the Archon.

The authorities had been informed of his disappearance on the ninth of August this year.

In a statement, the Public Prosecution Office said that the autopsy concluded that the death was caused by cerebral trauma resulting from a blow with a sharp object, adding that it does not rule out any hypothesis in the investigations.

At least 13 journalists have been killed since the beginning of the year in Mexico, one of the world’s most dangerous countries for journalism, according to media advocacy groups. More than 150 media workers have been killed since 2000 in this country, and in most cases their killers have gone unpunished.
