The Brussels council chamber examines suspicions of fraud in the sale of the Anderlecht club

The Brussels Council Chamber began on Thursday the examination of the case of alleged fraud in the context of the sale of the RSC Anderlecht football club to Marc Coucke.

In this case, the federal prosecutor’s office wishes to pursue sixteen suspects, including five companies. The prosecution and the civil parties will speak on Thursday, before the defense arguments for the various suspects, on March 12. The former owners of Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht and their entourage are suspected of having sold the club for a price higher than its true value.

The prosecution wants sixteen suspects, eleven individuals and five companies, to be referred to the criminal court for fraud, forgery and use of forgery, money laundering, corruption, breach of trust and violation of professional secrecy.

Among them, the former sports director Herman Van Holsbeeck allegedly admitted fraud during his hearings by the Central Office for the Suppression of Corruption (OCRC). Among the others implicated are the former president of the club Roger Vanden Stockex-CEO Jo Van Biesbroeckthe former financial director Rene Trullemans, as well as the club’s lawyer at the time. The players agent Christophe Henrotayalso in the sights of justice in other cases linked to football, and two of his collaborators are also suspected, as is the British company Foot Innovation belonging to Christophe Henrotay.

The prosecution is also targeting the business firm Clifford Chance and two of its lawyers, who carried out the sale to Marc Coucke in 2017. The lawyer and administrator Luc Deleu as well as Van Landuyt and AssociĆ©s, the firm with which he is affiliated, are also concerned. Deleu was himself a director at Anderlecht, where he sat alongside representatives of Marc Coucke’s investment vehicle, Alychlo.
