Brazilian football legend Pele, who is suffering from cancer, is in critical condition. In a statement on Wednesday, the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo said that following the exacerbation of the disease, problems with the functioning of the heart and kidneys were detected.
Earlier it was announced that Pele will arrive home to celebrate Christmas. But the star’s daughter said that she will remain in the hospital as her health worsened.
Pele led Brazil to victory in the 1958, 1962 and 1970 World Cups and remains one of the team’s all-time top scorers with 77 goals. Neymar equaled Pele’s record at the World Cup in Qatar.
During the World Cup, people including the Brazil team came to wish Pele a speedy recovery.
