The new banknote of 100 rubles is planned to be put into circulation this summer.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia Sergey Belovthe 100-ruble banknote of the new sample has already arrived in the regions.
– We plan to issue a new banknote as the circulation of the old banknote in circulation ends. This (the beginning of the launch of the banknote into circulation – ed.) somewhere, I think, will be this summer, – quotes “RIA Novosti” Sergei Belov.
The new banknote depicts the key objects of Moscow: the Spasskaya Tower of the Kremlin, the Ostankino Tower, the Zaryadye Park, the Moscow State University building on Sparrow Hills. On the reverse side – a memorial in Rzhev.
The need to modernize the banknote is long overdue. The last time it was modified was in 2001 and 2004. The artists of Gosznak and the Bank of Russia worked on the design for more than a year, and they decided to move away from the strict binding to the urban theme so that each region of the Russian Federation would be represented on banknotes.
New banknotes are varnished to extend their life by a third. They also contain a QR code leading to the website of the Bank of Russia.
