Looking at the G20 summit in New Delhi, Liu Dehai, director of the World Trade Organization Research Center at the School of International Affairs at National Chengchi University, said in an interview today (12th) that the joint statement did not condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the African Union’s accession is most worthy of discussion and observation. Both of these points It highlights that the United States and the Western world can no longer dominate the global political and economic order. As for the “India, Middle East and Europe Economic Corridor”, another focus of the summit, Liu Dehai bluntly said that it is “painting a big pie”, and how it will be implemented in the future remains to be seen.

The joint statement of the G20 summit in New Delhi did not condemn Russia. Scholar Liu Dehai said that on the one hand, it did not want to offend Russia’s host country, India, and on the other hand, it was also related to the opinions of other third world countries. He said: “(Original sound) Why is it like this in the end? What’s the result? This proves and represents that the West can no longer control the G20. If it could, of course it would still criticize Russia, but it doesn’t. So this is a very important tell us that politically speaking, the West is no longer in a position to control the G20. dominate the global political and economic order. 』

The same is true for the joining of the African Union. This issue was first raised by China and India. “The United States and Western countries are not interested in letting the African Union join because they usually stand on the opposite side of them.” But now it has become a fact. As a result of having to compromise, Liu Dehai said: “(Original sound) In the results of the G20, you can see that even if China is not here and Russia is not here, you still cannot dominate the entire agenda and results. 』

Liu Dehai analyzed that after the Russia-Ukraine war, judging from this year’s BRICS Summit in South Africa and the G20 Summit in India, “2023 has highlighted the beginning of a new world.” The first world is the United States, and the second world is Western democracies. However, the rise of the Middle East and the African Union are all tilting towards China, Russia or India in the Third World. From this point of view, “the combined influence of the United States and Western democracies on the world has declined.”

Another focus of discussion at the G20 summit was the “India, Middle East, and Europe Economic Corridor” proposed by the United States, which wants to connect South Asia with the Middle East and Europe through shipping and railways. However, Liu Dehai pointed out without hesitation, “Look at those member states, which one? Ability to execute large-scale infrastructure projects?”

In addition, Chinese leader Xi Jinping did not attend the G20 Summit. Therefore, whether he will go to the United States to attend the APEC Summit and hold a meeting with Xi has attracted great attention from all walks of life. Liu Dehai believes that Xi Jinping may not attend the APEC Summit because there is no need to “applaud Biden’s presidential election” ” Unless the United States makes major “economic concessions” before the summit, Xi Jinping will still be very likely to miss the APEC summit.
