The Children’s Literature Prize will be awarded at the Ministry of Education Culture

This year, the prize is dedicated to the writer Justin Žilinskas and the chief researcher of the National Martynas Mažvydas Library Egle Baliutavičiūta.

As the ministry announced, J. Žilinskas’ work was appreciated for its creative look at Lithuanian history, mythology and folklore in contemporary children’s literature. The prize is awarded to E. Baliutavičiūtė for her merits in popularizing children’s literature and reading.

J. Žilinskas, a professor at Mykolas Romeris University and a lawyer, has published 10 fiction books, most of which are intended for children and young people. The writer is also an active member of the public, participating in campaigns to promote reading.

E. Baliutavičiūtė’s activities in the field of children’s literature dissemination include reviews of children’s books, articles about children’s literature, reviews on Lithuanian Radio, presentations of the top ten books of the month, consultations, lectures on children’s literature, activities in various children’s literature commissions.

The Children’s Literature Prize was established in 2004 by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports. Its size is 5.5 thousand. EUR (100 BSI).

The laureates of this prize are Kęstutis Kasparavičius, Vytautas V. Landsbergis, Vytautė Žilinskaitė, Ramutė Skučaitė, Violeta Palčinskaitė, Ignė Zarambaitė, artist Zofija Vainilaitienė, Tomas Dirgėla and many other writers of children’s literature, reading promoters and popularizers.
