Despite the signage in place, a cyclist crossed the freshly poured concrete during works on the Tervuursesteenweg in Perk, Flemish Brabant. “It’s disrespectful,” said public works alderman Wim Mombaerts (N-VA).
The municipality had however asked cyclists and pedestrians not to use this road for 24 hours after the works. “A fool managed to get his bike through,” the alderman told the Nieuwsblad. “It’s shameful for the workers. I’m really angry. The demarcation was clear and the signage sufficient,” he added.
The workers tried to limit the damage but the bike trace is still visible.
The road will reopen on September 1.
