Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George has urged all to be extra vigilant as there are over 22,000 Kovid cases per day in the state. Kovid survived the second wave and the Kovid cases in the state were reduced to December 26, 1824. But after the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the number of cases increased very quickly.
On January 7, the number of cases was over 5,000. It has more than quadrupled in just 10 days. It reached over 12,000 on January 12 and over 22,000 on January 17. Everyone must be extremely careful not to let the cases escalate further. Kovid is in a state of transmission from anyone. Self-protection is paramount. Those entering public places must wear the appropriate N95 mask or double mask.
There has been an increase of about 60,161 cases of new Kovid reported as compared to last week. 182 per cent increase in the growth rate of new cases. At present, the number of patients diagnosed and treated has increased by 160 per cent, hospitalized patients by 41 per cent, field hospital patients by 90 per cent, ICU patients by 21 per cent, ventilator patients by 6 per cent and oxygen beds by 30 per cent.
Elderly people and those with other comorbidities are more likely to be severely affected by Kovid infection. If the number of patients rises sharply, the number of patients admitted to hospitals and the number of critically ill patients and deaths may increase. This will put pressure on the hospital system. Public ceremonies should be conducted only as directed. People everywhere should be kept to a minimum.
People with fever and symptoms should not go out in public in secret. Those with symptoms should be tested as directed by a health professional. Everyone in offices and institutions should wear the mask properly. Be careful not to eat together. Do not rush to wash your hands. Windows and doors should be kept open as closed spaces can cause Kovid to spread. Those who go to shops and shopping malls should never wear a mask. The minister also requested that everyone follow the Kovid guidelines.
