One of its most prominent features is that it facilitates and speeds up many steps that used to consume a lot of effort and time and helps people develop their abilities to confront artificial intelligence. However, its risks threaten our mental and psychological health. Artificial Intelligence is a double-edged sword that either improves our capabilities or destroys our psychological health.

Some studies have confirmed that artificial intelligence may cause a deterioration in the mental health of employees who work in workplaces that use technology in every detail. Employees find themselves in a state of isolation inside their offices with machines and robots, resulting in a lack of social interaction, causing the employee to feel isolated and lonely and enter a state of depression.

There is a dark side to artificial intelligence, as it represents a threat to some professions, and employees find themselves facing an external threat due to fears of being fired from work as a result of artificial intelligence replacing it in many jobs.

Artificial intelligence addiction

Dr. Helga Alaeddin, professor of psychology at Beirut Arab University, told the Nakisati podcast that there are negative effects of artificial intelligence, including excessive use of it to the point of addiction. She attributed this to his fear that artificial intelligence will replace him, and from this point a psychological problem related to artificial intelligence addiction appears, which is stress and anxiety. The individual resorts to psychiatry, either to the doctor directly or to artificial intelligence to obtain psychological consultations. This is where the real disaster appears.

The psychiatrist…a robot

Aladdin confirmed that there is a psychological trap that some people fall into by seeking psychological consultations through artificial intelligence applications. The patient then expects that he will be in a better condition after the artificial intelligence advice, and when he does not get the desired result from the consultations, he collapses, the condition deteriorates for the worse, and he resorts to suicide.

Dr. Helga also confirmed that psychological consultations mainly depend on questions and answers, elaborating the conversation between the patient and the psychiatrist, expressing what the patient feels on the one hand, and reading and analyzing the psychiatrist’s condition of the patient on the other hand, and then diagnoses the condition and prescribes the appropriate treatment.

She pointed out that this role depends primarily on human emotions, which artificial intelligence will not be able to replace.

She added that the role of artificial intelligence in relation to mental health relates only to general guidance and advice through mental health applications and not to diagnosis.

She advised listeners to keep pace with development and technology while putting an end to artificial intelligence penetrating our minds.
