Words which do not necessarily please the childcare workers who have decided to extend their strike action by at least one day. “It is unacceptable to hear that people who are absent due to long-term illness are being stigmatized,” protests Calogero Morina. “Among them, there is a lady with cancer, another with a neck problem, another with epicondylitis or even a childcare worker… who is pregnant. However, these long-term absences are not replaced, putting the remaining employees at the end of their tether, often understaffed, and pushing them to take medical certificates. I’m not saying that there aren’t some who are drilling but at that point, it’s up to the authorities to take their responsibilities.”
To remedy the urgency of the situation, the city also announced that a temporary solution had been put in place for parents who really do not have the possibility of looking after their children. “The municipal authorities deplore this situation and have done everything possible to ensure that a minimal reception service can be organized this morning, Tuesday October 10, 2023. This is being held at the Les Marmousets crèche, avenue Rêve d’ Gold in La Louvière”, specified the City. “Given the staff available, the offer is unfortunately limited to parents who have no alternative care for their child. The supervisors were responsible for organizing this reception service.”
As for knowing when the strike movement, putting many Louviéroise families in embarrassment, will end, nothing is less certain. “The childcare workers are in any case determined. Maybe more than their union representatives.”
