As a reminder, a person affected by this virus “can only contaminate from the onset of symptoms (fever, rash, fatigue, etc.) and until the lesions have healed. As long as there are no symptoms, there is no risk of transmission”, recalls the ARS.

The virus “is transmitted by contact of the skin or mucous membranes (mouth, sex, anus) with pimples or scabs and/or by droplets (sputter, sneeze…)”, inform the agency.

Preventive vaccination against monkeypox can be offered to people most exposed to the virus following the opinion of the High Health Authority of July 8, 2022:

  • men who have sex with men and report multiple partners and trans people with multiple partners,
  • people in prostitution,
  • professionals working in places of sexual consumption.

According to the latest update published on September 6 by Santé Publique France on its website, 3,721 people have contracted the virus in the country. The majority of cases (2,279) are in Île-de-France.
