The electric Lucid Air will arrive with a price reduction and customization possibilities for 2024

If you expected the 2024 Lucid Air to receive the same interior and technological improvements as the Lucid Gravity, you will be disappointed. New hardware, including wraparound touchscreens, a portrait-oriented touchscreen display, and a touch-sensitive steering wheel, won’t make the leap just yet.

Cost and time would be mitigating factors for this, according to Lucid’s head of design and brand, Derek Jenkins. He added that they could be possible in the future for the Air.

Meanwhile, the good news is that the changes introduced to the 2024 Air are still surprising. The changes for 2024 have less to do with the car itself than with adapting its offerings to customer needs. This means fewer options in some areas and more in others.

Lucid found that customers were confused by the various powertrain options, especially because they were tied to named trim levels that gained non-powertrain equipment. For 2024, the entry-level Pure is now rear-drive/single-engine only.

The Touring is now the entry-level model with all-wheel drive and two motors. The Grand Touring Performance has been discontinued, but Lucid says that much of what made the version unique is being stripped down to the standard Survival Grand Touring trim level.

That will translate into more power and range, but how much has not yet been announced. On the other hand, customers now have more flexibility in terms of the features that can be added to each of those trim/powertrain levels.

The price of the Pure drops considerably to $78,975, including $1,575 destination and documentation fees, but the basic equipment remains the same.

Better still, the Pure can now be equipped with features from the higher models, most notably the heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, which were one of the main customer requests.

You can also add leather and natural grain upholstery, and choose from different interior color combinations. The Fathom Blue color is added to the entire range, except Sapphire.

The Touring has seen its price reduced by about 10,000 dollars, to 87,475, but this is due in part to a reduction in its standard equipment. Much of that discontent involves features that many customers don’t see themselves using and therefore don’t like paying for.

Lucid mentioned heated rear seats and steering wheel for customers in warmer climates. As such, a new Comfort and Convenience package debuts, which adds those features back to the Touring and makes them available for the first time on the Pure.

The package includes heated steering wheel and rear seats, soft-closing doors, four-zone climate control and electric rear sunshades on both trims, while the Touring also adds electric windows in the trunk and luggage compartment, and heated windshield wipers.

Those luxury seats are also optional on the Touring along with leather, granting some customers’ desire for a cow-free interior. The Grand Touring will be able to choose the same material for the seats.

There were two other options (or non-options) that were very popular with customers. The glass roof that came standard on the Grand Touring is now an option. It turns out that some wanted maximum power and luxury without the sun permanently roasting their heads. The glass roof remains an option for the Touring.

To no one’s surprise in 2023, when black upholstery is king, the Stealth Appearance package (pictured above) has proven very popular and is now found as an option on the Touring, as well as the Grand Touring. This collection of 32 individual trim pieces is actually much cheaper now at $1,750 with the aluminum roof. It’s $3,500 with the glass roof.

It’s also worth noting how Lucid figured out what its customers wanted. Because the company sells its cars directly, there are no independent dealers involved to leak customer data (or eliminate the possibility of collecting it altogether).

He also used their online configurator to see how people built their cars, which seems like an obvious thing that all car companies do, but they don’t.

In addition to seeing the final car “built,” Lucid could follow the manufacturing process to see what features and trim levels users chose. Things like the availability of the glass roof for the Grand Touring versus the Touring would appear in that data, for example.

The 2024 Lucid Air is now on sale and the configurator is updated.
