The English offer themselves Brazil and win the Finalissima

With this prestigious victory against Brazil, Sarina Wiegman’s players are more than ever favorites for the next World Cup (July 20-August 20). They now have two titles in one year and 30 matches in a row without a single defeat. The reigning European champions England beat the Brazilians (1-1, 4-2 on pens), champions of South America, during the Finalissima.

After a start dominated by her own, Ella Ann Toone opened the scoring in the 23rd minute of play. Five minutes later, Lauren James thought to double the bet, but her goal was finally canceled by the VAR.

A match restarted in the last moments

The players of Pia Sundhage, the coach of Brazil, tried everything in the second half. They first held on for more than 45 minutes, before Andressa Alves equalized at close range in the final moments (90th + 3), after a handball error by English goalkeeper Mary Earps.

On penalties, Earps made up for it by making a decisive save. It was finally Chloe Kelly who liberated Wembley and offered the trophy to her audience, as in the final of the 2022 European Championship against Germany (2-1, ap).
