The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, denounced the “appalling” hostage-taking of civilians and called for their “immediate” release. He expressed the EU’s “solidarity” with Israel. The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, also castigated “indiscriminate attacks against Israel and its people (…), inflicting terror and violence on innocent citizens” .
