In a statement on Monday, the European Union foreign ministers demanded that Iran respect human rights, as well as stop providing “support to Russia.”
“The European Union reiterates its firm call to the Iranian authorities to ensure the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all Iranians, including persons belonging to ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities,” the statement said. The European Council also expressed its strong condemnation of any kind of Iranian military support to Russia, which refers, in particular, to alleged deliveries of drones.
For its part, the Iranian authorities accuse Western countries of supporting the protesters and interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
