A man’s last words to his wife in China were recorded in a video that has attracted 32 million views on the social network of billions of people.

SCMP reported that the video was taken by the 88-year-old man’s bedside the day before he died in December 2022 from illness. A relative named Xin Jing Jia You posted it online earlier this month.

“Since he left, she cried like a baby. He left her the day after their 64th wedding anniversary. He had to part with the woman he had cherished and cared for all his life,” this person wrote.

In the video, the man, speaking in the dialect of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, tells his wife to be strong and not to let the pain make her neglect herself.

“If any grandson or daughter-in-law makes her unhappy, don’t give in,” he said.

“Please promise me,” urged a relative nearby.

The 83-year-old woman quietly wiped her tears, choking to say to her husband: “I hate you. Why did you leave me alone and leave in such a hurry?”

Gently touching his wife’s face, the husband replied: “Don’t cry. I don’t want to leave her, but I don’t have a choice. It’s a blessing that we’ve been husband and wife for all these years.”

The video has become a trend on mainland Chinese social media in recent days.

“I burst into tears every time I watch this video. He never once mentioned the word love, but each of his words was filled with love. He worries for her to live without him, while she can’t bear to see him gone,” one person commented.

“I took the video 3 times. I admire their love. It’s the sincere feelings of the old generation,” another said.

One netizen shared: “He left the world peacefully, without many pipes into the body like old patients, suffering from serious diseases. He remained lucid and comforted his wife. May he rest in peace.”
