The fight of Katell, sports coach and stroke victim at only 33 years old

Even though the average age of a stroke is 76, there are stories of stroke changing the lives of younger people, like Katell, whom she met during a boxing session.

In most cases, having a stroke manifests itself in a brutal physical way. Deformation of the mouth, weakness on one side of the body, speech disorders… Except that for Katell, it was not this kind of signs that led to his medical treatment. A top athlete, in boxing, the Parisian coach felt a change “in her body”, “something that was wrong”, she explains to us.

After headaches, a consultation and extensive research, she discovered she was having a stroke at the age of 33. The stroke occurs on average around 76 years, according to data from the High Authority for Health (HAS). In the majority of cases (41%), it happens after 80 years. But at least one in ten cases of stroke would concern people between the ages of 18 and 55. It is the third cause of death in France with 30,000 deaths per year, according to France AVC.
