A decision to hold the final of the Greek Cup in Volos without the presence of fans was taken at today’s meeting of the involved bodies at the EPO offices.
“There was a meeting today. In this meeting we made decisions. The first thing to say is that EPO is obliged to comply with the announcement. When there is a team from Athens and Thessaloniki, the final takes place in Volos. Aris does not accept to play in OAKA. Since the teams do not agree, we go to Volos as the announcement says but the conditions must be met. If they are not observed until a point in time, it will be done behind closed doors. Panathinaikos expressed reservations even with the crowd due to incidents that can happen. The mayor of Volos welcomes around 11,000 fans. Now the conditions are not met. Today the decision is: In Volos, the final without fans. If the conditions change we will see. The stadium of Volos should be improved according to the law, but soon before we can change our decision”, said Mr. Baltakos.
Regarding OAKA, he replied: “I told you about OAKA. Aris does not accept to play where Panathinaikos used it as a home base. EPO can certainly help financially to improve Panthessaliko”.
Earlier, Achilleas Beos, left the meeting for the final of the Greek Cup that he received at the EPO offices, stressing that he himself, as the mayor of Volos, was positive, under conditions, for the presence of 15,000 fans in Panthessalikos, he added, however, that Giannis Alafouzos was negative in this possibility, wanting more tickets to be given to the teams.
More specifically, Mr. Beos, who stayed at the meeting for about 10 minutes, said upon his departure: “I am here because I was invited, but there is no point in staying, because as mayor my intention is to make it a final celebration . From there, the details are up to the EPO and the teams. So I don’t have a job. I, however, gave the green light for Panthessalikos. I remain the same approach regarding the fans in the final, but based on the history of the teams and that they do not have the same rivalry as others, we said under conditions that people should come to Volos. To have approximately 15,000 fans. My proposal is from 4,000 to each team in the horseshoes and 5,000 for the EPO to make available wherever it wants and to give to the teams as well if it wants. Mr. Alafouzos was negative, because he thinks little of the world. But the decisions will be made by EPO and the teams”.
In addition to what Mr. Beos mentioned, it should be noted that during the meeting the powerful man of Panathinaikos underlined that it does not meet any need to give 4,000 tickets to each team or even less, since the police, it should be noted, suggested that they be given from 3,000. The position of Panathinaikos, as expressed by Mr. Alafuzos, is negative for the final in Panthessalikos with so few tickets, since the needs of the season holders are not even met. Yiannis Alafouzos did not appear in accordance with the specific scenario, therefore, and initially asks for more tickets and maybe the Olympic Stadium will fall on the table again.
Finally, he suggested that the EPO and the Municipality of Volos take over the costs for the cameras in Panthessaliko ahead of the final.
