The first 12-inch Retina MacBook will soon be obsolete

The 12-inch MacBook Retina stole hearts when it was released in 2015, but it was still a bad start. In addition to its butterfly keyboard, it had an anemic Core M processor, a single all-purpose USB-C port, and it inaugurated the disappearance of the luminous Apple on the back, which is completely unacceptable. On the other hand, this Mac was thin and very light (less than 1 kg), and indeed it has a very nice screen – not to mention this pink color.

The 1.1GHz MacBook Core M wasn’t a thunderbolt, but it looked good.

It is this model that the Apple list of obsolete products will host starting June 30, according to a memo intercepted par MacRumors. Obsolete devices are considered as such when they have not been manufactured for more than 7 years (Apple renewed the range in 2015, with a slightly more powerful MacBook). This means that the manufacturer will no longer be able to perform hardware repairs, while service centers will no longer be able to order parts.

With the advent of Apple chips, many hoped that Apple would bring this design (discontinued in July 2019) up to date, but alas, it seems that we are heading instead for a larger MacBook Air.
