Today, there are a lot of rumors on the Web about what the new Moskvich will be like. Recently, images have appeared that reveal the appearance of Russian models that are built on the basis of JAC cars. Such a narrow “specialization” is largely due to the fact that it is the cars of the Chinese brand that will form the basis of the future “Moskvich”. This was officially announced a few weeks ago. However, it has not yet been confirmed exactly which models will be used as a prototype when creating new Moskvich.
Moreover, there is a possibility that the Russian automobile plant will not be limited to only five possible cars (4 crossovers and 1 sedan) that are currently supplied to the Russian market. The latter is explained by the fact that the capital’s enterprise is going to be brought to its design capacity in the next 2 years. This means that it will produce about 100 thousand cars annually. But even with the implementation of this plan, Moskvich will be able to fill only certain segments of the Russian market. At the same time, some niches will remain empty due to the departure of foreign manufacturers.
The domestic designer created several renderings that show the unexpected Moskvich. It is presented in the form of a sports coupe, designed in the style of American muscle cars. It is this model that can become one of those that will fill the narrow segments of the Russian market. That is, the presented Moskvich-412 2022-2023 will be produced in relatively small batches. Despite such an original positioning (cars of this class in Russia are really in limited demand), the likelihood of such a coupe appearing is high.
Part of the reason is that JAC doesn’t make muscle cars. At the same time, Chinese manufacturers often develop non-standard cars for themselves. They use this approach largely because they want to be present in all segments of the global market. The new sports “Moskvich” will help JAC test its technological capabilities in an unusual niche for itself. Moreover, the Russian model will cost significantly less than its American counterparts.
The latter is due to the fact that a low-power motor will be hidden behind the sporty appearance of the new Moskvich. At least it will be less productive than those units that Ford and other muscle car manufacturers install on their cars.
Design
The presented coupe “Moskvich” -412 2022-2023 is designed in the style of American muscle cars. In particular, the Russian novelty is distinguished by its compact size and “muscular” body elements. But despite the pronounced similarity, the presented model is still designed in a unique style that distinguishes it from the background of possible competitors.
The new “Moskvich” is distinguished by a sculptural body with sharp and, at the same time, smooth transitions. The coupe received large and voluminous wings with wide arches, inside of which large wheels are hidden. Their diameter will probably reach 20 inches. The side doors of the presented novelty, due to the voluminous wheel wings, seem to be “drowned” into the body. This configuration not only gives a somewhat aggressive look, but also, perhaps, will provide a better redistribution of air masses, which will positively affect both the dynamics and stability of the car. The latter also provides a low center of gravity. But due to the low ground clearance, the presented Moskvich can only be operated on smooth asphalt.
Following the example of American muscle cars, the Russian novelty has a smooth and elongated hood, which slightly bends down at the tip. This solution, combined with the littered A-pillars and the sloping roof, also improves the aerodynamics of the body. The radiator grille of the Russian novelty is slightly recessed inwards. At the same time, stylistically, it is close to the one used on the Soviet “Moskvich”: its pattern is also made up of horizontal metal strips. The resemblance to the “progenitor” is emphasized by the rectangular head optics with a round central headlight.
But the front bumper for the presented Moskvich-412 2022-2023 was copied from modern sports cars. Almost its entire area is occupied by a large air intake with horizontal slats. In front of them, the developer placed an unusual design, similar to a roll cage. They most likely provide a redistribution of oncoming air masses. On the sides of the air intake in 2 rows are square headlights, which are also copied from the Soviet Moskvich.
A distinctive feature of the Russian novelty can be called an elongated stern. Because of this, the rear pillars practically lie on the window sill line. The stern, like the rest of the body, is characterized by sculptural forms. Here the developer placed large optics, spaced around the edges, and a protruding bumper with a decorative trim, inside of which there is a hole for the exhaust pipes.
Specifications
It is still difficult to guess what characteristics the Moskvich sports coupe will have. On the one hand, developers need to keep prices low. Therefore, the coupe should be equipped with a low-power motor. But on the other hand, engineers must create a fast car that matches its appearance. Therefore, it is likely that the presented coupe will be equipped with a 2-liter JAC engine, which develops up to 177 hp. power and 290 N * m of traction moment. Buyers will be offered a choice of both automatic and manual transmission.
It is likely that in order to reduce the price of the coupe, the Moskvich-412 2022-2023 will also be equipped with a 1.5-liter engine with a maximum output of 136 hp. and a traction moment of 200 N * m.
Start of sales
The presented sports coupe is an original project even for JAC. Therefore, if it is implemented, the new Moskvich may appear no earlier than 2023, since it will take a lot of time to develop such a model.
