The first group living house established solely by NGOs has opened in Lentvari

10 residents will live in this house, and they will be cared for by a social worker and several individual care workers. According to SADM, social care services are provided 24 hours a day for residents of group living homes.

Social, healthcare, employment, education, culture and other services for the residents of these houses are organized and provided in the community.

“The group living house in Lentvary is a great example of how the non-governmental sector can contribute to this, having implemented such a project from start to finish. This is a particularly important and welcome contribution,” Minister Monika NavickienÄ—, who participated in the institution’s opening, is quoted in the report.

“I believe and hope that more municipalities will follow this example and include non-governmental organizations as equal partners, and in the future we will be able to enjoy more than one such project,” she said.

The group living house in Lentvary was established after using the funds of the structural funds of the European Union. The total value of the project is almost 685 thousand. euros.

According to the Ministry, at the end of last year, 53 group living homes were operating in the country, where 462 people lived. By the middle of this year, there should be about 100 such houses, and about 900 people with disabilities will live in them.

By the 2030s, the country’s municipality plans to establish about 80 more group living homes. Currently, the majority of group living homes are located in Kaunas.
